Hollywood, FL – The Black Republican Caucus of Florida is proud to stand in support of  Governor Ron DeSantis as he fulfills a campaign promise to posthumously pardon the Groveland Four; Ernest Thomas, Samuel Shepard, Walter Irvin and Charles Greenlee.

The four gentlemen who were wrongfully accused of raping a 17 – year old white woman in 1949, for years have lived with the guilt and shame of knowing that they were publicly villainized and crucified for a crime they did not commit. Thanks to the commitment of Governor DeSantis these gentlemen, those still living and the legacies of the deceased, along with their families can now move forward in peace knowing that their name not live on in disgrace

“As a black man, who has a son myself I think back to the many different cases like the Groveland Four, those we know of and the countless cases that have never been heard of, and often ponder in realization that such a circumstance could’ve been me or could’ve been my son. Its ever so humbling to wake up each day knowing that I did not have to endure such a reality. I am eternally grateful to Governor DeSantis for his leadership and ongoing efforts to uphold the rule of law and reassure all Floridians that such a rule be fair and just for our states 21 million residents regardless of color, creed or national origin. “
